CHAPTER 27

Sophie

I was making breakfast, swaying to Lost Stars by Adam Levine with nothing on but Damien’s button-down. The sunlight was trickling in through the windows and everything felt strangely normal.

Strong hands gripped me from behind, tugging me against him. His erection pressed into me as he dropped his head into the groove between my cheek and neck, kissing me softly. Reaching my hand up, I held his face closer to mine as I looked up at him.

“Good morning.” I grinned as he grinded into me. “Damien…” I giggled as his fingers went down and he immediately let out a groan when he ran his fingers across me, knowing I didn’t have any panties on. He rubbed his fingers along my clit, making me clutch the kitchen counter. “Damien.” I sighed as he drew my wetness across my pussy.

Right as he pushed his fingers inside, my phone rang.

“No,” he said into my ear.

Letting out a laugh, I pulled away from him. “I have to answer that. It’s probably Amira about tonight.”

“Hey Amira,” I answered trying to suppress the giddiness in my voice.

“Hey Sophie, where are you? We’re in the front of your building with breakfast,” Amira said.

Anxiety pooled inside me. I looked over at Damien, who glanced down at the outline of his dick in the fitted gray joggers. Widening my eyes, I shook my head.

“I’m over at Reese’s for breakfast.” I cleared my throat.

“Really? Ezra texted Reese when you didn’t pick up, and she said she didn’t know where you were.” Amira sounded suspicious.

My heart raced as I was caught in a lie. “I… I’m with Zach,” I stammered. Glancing over at Damien, his brows dropped lower and his jaw ticked.

Shit.

“Oh, now I see why you’re being shady.” Amira giggled, and I could hear Ezra grumble in the background. “Well, bring him over to dinner tonight. Damien’s coming, too; he’s bringing Carmen.” Amira sounded excited, and of course, she was. She thought she was going to have a triple date with some of her favorite people—because that’s what normal couples did. Suddenly my heart sank. Damien had already planned to bring Carmen, the stunning, leggy, smart attorney. We didn’t belong. We didn’t fit.

“That sounds good,” I replied and quickly said goodbye before hanging up.
